Volkswagen has launched the new ID.7, a spacious and technologically advanced electric saloon designed to compete with luxury EVs like the BMW i5 and Mercedes EQE. After facing criticism for software issues in its earlier electric models, Volkswagen aims to prove its mettle with the ID.7 by eliminating those glitches and delivering a refined driving experience.

The ID.7, nearly five meters long, showcases sleek aerodynamics with a drag coefficient of 0.23. It promises to offer both comfort and advanced technology, aiming to attract buyers who might also consider the Polestar 2, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Tesla Model 3, or BMW i4. Volkswagen has focused on enhancing the software interfaces, ensuring that features such as the 15-inch "floating" touchscreen infotainment system are both logical and user-friendly.

Inside, the ID.7 provides ample space and headroom, comfortably accommodating four to five adults. The cabin, while more functional than luxurious, features background lighting and a dimmable panoramic roof to create a pleasant atmosphere. Despite its size, the ID.7 delivers a smooth and comfortable drive, supported by a Vehicle Dynamic Manager system that balances comfort and agility.

Powered by a 286hp motor, the ID.7 offers substantial torque and a claimed range of 615km, with a realistic driving range of 510-520km. Fast charging capabilities allow the battery to reach 80% in a short time, making it suitable for long-distance travel.

Volkswagen has also improved the digital cockpit, with features like motorized air vents and a responsive voice command system. The ID.7 heats the steering wheel and directs warm air to the driver’s hands with a simple voice command.

Starting at €56,490 with optional extras bringing the total to €63,725, the ID.7 comes equipped with a comprehensive list of features, including wireless app connectivity, climate control, heated front seats, and advanced driver assistance systems.
